The Power and Presence of Pride
In Isaiah 66:2 the Lord says, “…but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word”.
During the recent Shepherd’s Conference, C.J. Mehaney, delivered a message from this text about Pride. He talked about the Perils of Pride, the Promise of Humility and the Purposeful Application of Humility in our lives. At one point in the sermon Mehaney stated, "We gather here in need of illumination and discernment as it relates to the power and presence of pride in our hearts."
The session opened with the statement that “Pride is the first sin that was ever committed, appears to be the essence of all sin and it is also the most serious sin”. He then quoted Charles Bridges from his commentary on Proverbs: "Pride lifts up the heart against God. It contends for supremacy with Him.”
Mehaney noted that although we have a tendency to be more perceptible of pride in others than in ourselves we should avoid this propensity and focus on the pride in our own heart.
On today’s “Calling For Truth” Radio Program we will discuss this sermon and both subjects included in it (Pride and the need for Humility). We will seek to specifically highlights the points of application – specific steps of application designed to cause us to tremble at God’s Word and allow that Word to transform and humble us.
