Not Your Typical Youth Mission Trip

Normally, youth mission trips involve outreach events (such as Vacation Bible School) or building/community service projects. Now imagine an experience where Christian youth travel to a place with a completely different worldview: a leading atheist or an expert in the Mormon faith is allowed to present his or her beliefs to the students. The presentation becomes a dialogue as the youth are challenged to defend Christianity.

Mission trips such as these, which involve discipleship, outreach and service opportunities, are part of Stand to Reason’s (STR) student impact program.

On today’s “Calling For Truth” Radio Program our guest will be Brett Kunkle, Student Impact Speaker for Stand to Reason.

Brett is committed to equipping students to make a defense of their Christian faith and values. He has more than 11 years of experience in youth ministry. He has spoken to numerous
church youth groups, as well as student camps and conferences. He organizes and leads periodic youth mission trips for STR.

According to a recent Barna poll, an incredible 76 percent of Christian students believe that moral truth depends on the circumstances, and 15 percent have no idea where moral truths come from.

The results of a survey done by Josh McDowell were just as disheartening: 84 percent of Christian college freshmen were unable to explain what they believe or why they believe it.

The problem lies in not knowing what they believe as Christians and in not knowing how to defend it against the sophisticated messages undermining Christianity in today's culture.

Stand to Reason wants to give young people a dose of confidence. Founded in
1993 by Greg Koukl and Melinda Penner, STR trains Christians to think more clearly about their faith and to make an even-handed, incisive, yet gracious defense of classical Christianity and classical Christian values in the public square.
