“Preach… the Word” says the apostle Paul. What instruction could be more clear
or authoritative? In a day when confusion has gripped the church and relativism
has gripped the culture, the great need of the hour is a word, from God. That
word has been given to us. That is why the great need of the hour is expository
preaching.

The Institute for Reformed Worship of Erskine Theological Seminary presents two
conferences in one weekend: First, for pastors, it’s the “Preach the Word
Conference, Thursday and Friday, September 11 and 12 at First Presbyterian
Church in Columbia, South Carolina. “Speakers include Sinclair Ferguson, Ligon
Duncan, Alistair Begg and Mark Ross.

In the second conference open to everyone, Friday and Saturday of the same
weekend, you’ll get a fresh understanding of the grace of God in the gospel.

Check the schedule for speakers and topics at www.erskineseminary.org. For more
information call 803-771-6180.

On today’s edition of “Calling for Truth,” one of the conference speakers, Dr.
Mark Ross, will be my guest. We’ll be talking about a few themes from the
conference including expository preaching and the love that God has for us as
demonstrated through Christ and the present ministry of the Spirit in our lives.

Dr. Ross is the Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Erskine
Theological Seminary and Director of the Institute for Reformed Worship. Prior
to joining the Erskine faculty in 2004 he served for twenty years as Associate
Pastor for Teaching at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South
Carolina. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (B.A.), the
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Keele University in
England (Ph.D.). He and his wife, Connie, have two children and five
grandchildren.
