The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment

On today’s “Calling For Truth” Radio Program, our special guest will be well-known Internet Blogger, Tim Challies.

Tim is the site manager for one of the Christian Blogosphere’s most popular sites, www.challies.com. The blog routinely covers a wide range of subjects of interest to the Christian Community. Additionally, the site is noted for some regular features, such as book reviews, conference updates, and for giving highlights of other Christian web site.

During our conversation today we will ask Tim to appraise the status and benefits of the Christian Blogosphere. We will also ask Tim to give us a brief update of a new blog he has recently launched entitled, “Discerning Reader”.

On that site there is a brief statement of purpose; 120,000 new books are published each year. Ten thousand every month. 1.5 billion books per year are consumed within America alone and yet even this totals only 35% of the books that are sold worldwide. How can anyone hope to navigate the seemingly infinite number of books available? This is where we come in. Discerning Reader is dedicated to helping you find, read and enjoy good books.”

The final segment of our conversation will be reserved for a discussion about Tim’s forthcoming book, “The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment”.
Writing on that subject Tim states, Discernment is the skill of understanding and applying God's Word with the purpose of separating truth from error and right from wrong. When we practice discernment, we are applying the truths of the Bible to our lives. We are attempting to understand the words of the Bible and trusting God's Word to give clarity so we might see things as God sees them. Our goal in discernment is to do just this: to see things through God's eyes through the Bible and thus to see things as they really are. Like wiping the steam from a mirror, we seek to remove what is opaque so we might see with God-given clarity.”

Gotta say that reading books costs about $10/book, while on the web free! Don't buy many books, money is tight.
